Surrogate Partner Therapy (SPT) is a therapeutic practice that was pioneered in the 1970’s by researchers in human sexuality Masters and Johnson. They developed Surrogate Partner Therapy as a way to help people overcome obstacles to social, emotional, and physical intimacy.
A professional surrogate partner works in collaboration with a licensed therapist to help clients address issues related to intimacy, sexual function, and emotional connection. It is typically used when a client struggles with forming or maintaining intimate relationships due to psychological, physical, or emotional challenges.
Surrogate partner therapy is often sought by individuals who:
At Ravensong, we are dedicated to providing an inclusive and affirming space for clients of all genders, races, sexualities, abilities, body types, and backgrounds. To support accessibility, we offer a limited financial assistance program.
I primarily work with clients in the New England region, with a focus on Massachusetts, including the Greater Boston area. However, for those outside this region or facing scheduling constraints and other barriers, I offer intensive program options designed to provide the same depth of work in a more concentrated format. If you're interested in exploring these options, please reach out to discuss what might be the best fit for you.
Triadic Model: SPT involves a team of three participants: the client. the surrogate partner, and the referring therapist or counselor. These individuals work together to create a very structured and supportive process for the client.
Goal-Oriented: The therapy is individually tailored to the client's needs and often focuses on overcoming specific challenges, such as: physical discomfort or anxiety during intimacy, building confidence in social or romantic situations, or addressing past traumas or negative experiences related to intimacy.
Step-by-Step Process: The therapy typically progresses through a series of stages:
My standard hourly rate for Surrogate Partner Therapy throughout Massachusetts and New England is $275 per hour. I also offer an intensive package to further assist those who are not in the New England area or who have scheduling difficulties that prohibit participation in the Traditional Program.
Most clients in the Traditional Program take an average of 12 months to reach their goals, though this timeline varies—some require more time, while others need less.
This work requires a commitment of time, effort, and financial resources. It is not inexpensive, but my clients consistently find it to be a valuable and transformative investment in their personal growth and development.
My rates for individual intimacy training and couples intimacy coaching are $225 and $250 per hour, respectively.
Please review the offerings on this page. I also offer payment plans and limited financial assistance for members of marginalized communities and those experiencing financial hardship. If you’d like to discuss your options and take the next steps, please don't hesitate to reach out—I’d be happy to connect with you.
Unfortunately, insurance does not currently cover Surrogate Partner Therapy. While our work follows the Triadic Model in collaboration with a licensed mental health professional, surrogate partner therapy is not classified as a medical or mental health service under insurance guidelines. As a result, it is considered an out-of-pocket investment in your own personal growth and healing.
We understand that cost can be a concern, and we are happy to discuss our payment plan options with you. We also offer limited financial assistance to members of marginalized communities or those experiencing financial hardship.
That’s wonderful—I’m excited about the possibility of working together!
The first step is to determine if you are already working with a licensed talk therapist. If so, I encourage you to discuss your interest in Surrogate Partner Therapy with them. If they are unfamiliar with the Triadic Model, I’d be happy to provide more information and answer any questions they may have.
If you are not currently seeing a therapist, you’ll need to find one you feel comfortable with and begin your work together I recommend reviewing IPSA’s guidelines on selecting a therapist and consider contacting the IPSA Referral Coordinator for additional support.
Once you have an established therapeutic relationship and both you and your therapist agree that you’re ready to move forward, please reach out to me directly—I look forward to connecting with you on this journey.
